The life cycle of a Butterfly

Children at Rosedene Nurseries setting in Guisborough have been learning about the life cycle of a butterfly after reading the poplar children’s book, the Hungry Caterpillar. The nursery bought five caterpillars which have grown and turned into chrysalis’s before becoming butterflies. The butterflies were released in front of the children’s eyes but they have also used the topic to link to several other Early Years Development topics. The display shown in Rosedene Guisborough’s blossoms room, for children aged 3-4 years old, shows a variety of activities surrounding mathematics, creativity, literacy and sequencing.

The topic has been finished off with some gardening as the children have been watering and growing their own plants, hoping the butterflies might stay at the nursery for a little while longer.
